Thilo uses ideas from Network Science, Nonlinear Dynamics and Statistical Physics to make sense of complex systems. In particular he focuses on developing new methods for systems that are hard to analyze with existing tools because of their complex structure or limitations of available data.
In his work he tries to make progress in real world problems by developing new theoretical frameworks. His publications alternate between mathematical and physical papers that advance theory and papers that carry this progress into a broad range of application domains. The majority of Thilo’s work is in Ecology but he has published in leading journals in Cell Biology, Endocrinology, Neuroscience, Physics and Management.
His work has received coverage in major media including Time, Wired, the Washington Post, BBC and others. His papers were mentioned on the floor of the US Senate and in a recent Memorandum of the Green Party in Germany.
