Advising Appointments

The CS department does not take walk-ins. Please schedule an appointment or visit our virtual drop-in advising during the designated hours.

Appointments

Appointments are only available for students declared in the CS/CSE majors. Due to the large number of students in our majors, appointments with staff advisors are very impacted. Appointments are bookable up to two weeks in advance. Be sure to click "Next" to view next week's appointments. If you do not see any available appointments, it means we are currently booked. Please check back on the appointment system in the upcoming days as more appointments will become available.

Once you have scheduled an appointment, a Zoom link will be available in your appointment confirmation. Please be aware, if you are 10 minutes late for your appointment, you will not be seen and will have to reschedule.

If you are interested in changing into the CS or CSE major, please review our change of major webpage and attend an info session.

Appointment Limit:

Due to the high volume of students in the CS department, CS/CSE students can only schedule one appointment per quarter. If you have already had an appointment this quarter and have further questions, please speak with an advisor during our virtual drop-in hours or review our FAQs.

What Do You Need Help With?

Appointments for GE advising, academic difficulty, or late drops should be handled by the College of Engineering Dean's office.

Mandatory Advising Requirement

All students are required to complete a mandatory advising requirement once per academic year. Advising is a partnership. Your advising team is dedicated to your academic success and is here to support you in achieving your academic, career, and personal goals. But ultimately, your success requires you to be an active participant in the advising process. To get the most out of advising, be sure you are ready to engage in a conversation and come prepared with questions. Remember, this is your education, and it's your responsibility to take ownership of it.

Below you will find information on how to satisfy your advising requirement. Failure to meet your mandatory advising requirement by the end of the Winter quarter will result in a Fall registration hold for the following Fall quarter.

  • First Year Students Admitted in Fall 2025
  • First-year students not enrolled in ECS 98: You are required to attend a group advising session in Fall Quarter. Attendance for the entire workshop is required to receive credit. If you arrive late or leave early, you will be asked to attend another session. Dates will be sent to you via email starting the second week of fall quarter.

First-year students enrolled in ECS 98 for the fall quarter: Your advising requirement will be completed through class. You do not need to attend a group session. The content from the group session will be covered during the lectures.

First-year students will not get access to schedule a 1:1 appointment with an advisor until they have completed their mandatory advising requirement.
  • Transfer Students Admitted in Fall 2025
  • Transfer students are required to meet with an advisor for a 30-minute advising appointment in Fall Quarter. Please schedule an appointment online through the appointment system.
  • Sophomores & Juniors
  • Sophomores & juniors are required to meet with an advisor for a 30-minute advising appointment in Winter Quarter. If you end up meeting with us for an appointment before Winter Quarter, we will allow that to satisfy your advising requirement. Please schedule an appointment online through the appointment system.

During your sophomore & junior years, you should be focusing more on career development activities - looking for internships, research opportunities, networking, and learning other programming languages. Students with hands-on experience are more likely to have a job lined up at graduation, so start building up your resume now. Your experience will be more important than most of the classes you take.
  • Seniors
  • The CS peer advising team will be uploading copies of your degree certification onto OASIS for you to view. We recommend reviewing your degree certification and then speaking with an advisor if you have questions about your remaining requirements.

How to view your degree certification:
    - Log in to OASIS
    - Select the "Advising Record" tab
    - You should then see a degree check document uploaded by the CS team

CS advisors can only advise on major requirements. You will need to consult with EUO to confirm any college or university-level requirements.
